Friday, Always Welcome...

What is it about Friday's that feel so good. The obvious answer is obviously that after a week's work, there is finally time for relaxing, having fun and enjoying some non responsibility laden time to ourselves. The not so obvious answer is that maybe it's a sign that maybe we need to find a better way to spend the week. Friday has grown in mythical status for too long and I'm thinking the only remedy is to try and make the week a little more entertaining.

So what are we to do? What if the job we have is not all that we'd hoped for? What if stress is looming at the door each and every day until the weekend comes? Then we need to get creative and come up with a solution. Surely, if Friday's are all we are waiting for, that is no way to live the rest of our days.

So rather than rattle off a list of ways we could make the week that much more enjoyable, I'm taking proposals instead. Let's see what we could come up with. We can't just live for 2 weeks of vacation and weekends. There has got to be more and that's what we need to get to.

Perhaps a bit idealistic, perhaps a bit Utopian, but like many things in life with no clear path, it's still worth the effort to try and find a good place in between.

so, I'm off to see what I can come up with and then we can compare life notes.

here's to Friday just being another amazing day
much TGIEveryDay love

Just Follow Your Heart. Really?

This is going to be one of those stories that doesn't make look like a hero, doesn't end in glory and certainly won't be material for a front, or back page story of any newspaper. I'm not even talking the local gazette that is stuck in your fence once a week with weekly coupons. I am sharing this story in the hopes that by the end of it, we can shed a little more light on the age old saying of 'Follow Your Heart."

I was 18 years old and beginning my junior year in college. Fortunately my high school offered summer courses for those that wanted to graduate early so I took advantage of that and ran out of high school faster than a track and field competitor at the Olympics. I was never very fond of school. Although I did well enough, it wasn't my favorite place to be so whenever I could advance my studies, I did. So there I was, in September, beginning a new semester, majoring in music. Since music was my major I had no problem going to classes for that so it was a good time. I did however, want to be a part of a sports team in college. I had heard so much about college sports, I figured, hey, I could do that so I signed up. Soccer was my choice and since the World Cup had just been hosted but the US just a few months prior, I though it was a perfect fit and I was very excited.

Another Station Always Awaits...

The tracks made their familiar click-click all through night. The scenery, always blurry, changed in the window like a television set. The rising sun, along with the setting sun, provided the perfect backdrop for the passing trees, mountains and occasional towns as the train made it’s way across the landscape. This was my first adventure on a train and every moment was vibrant and new, painting new images in my mind that would live to this very moments. We couldn’t afford the sleeper car, which although would have been a nice touch, didn’t really seem to matter much. My parents sat a couple of seats in front on my sisters and I, coming by to check how we were doing from time to time.

We played every game you could think of, from cards games, new and old, to all sorts of word games and if my memory serves me right, there was even a backgammon set that provided hours of entertainment. The trip was from Buenos Aires to Cordoba through the countryside of Argentina and to a kid that loved trains more than anything, it was a trip I would not only never forget, but one that would teach me a neat little, no, big lesson about life and all it’s wonders.
